  • Keep your College Kids Safe

If your daughter (or son) is about to go away to college or even just moving out of your house - here is some information that will keep them safe and secure as well as let you sleep more easily while they're away.

If your daughter is presently attending college I'm sure you have heard all kinds of stories about her experiences at school. This was probably her first 'away from home' experience both for her as well as for you. She's told you about her friends, her classes, the food, even the sports.

But what about the stories she didn't tell you. Not all teenagers like to openly talk to their parents - they know it all and feel like nothing can hurt them or happen to them. So, here are a few questions you might ask her: Does she feel safe in her dorm room or apartment? How about walking back from class or the library late at night? Or even just going out with the gang or to a fraternity party? What about the coed who was attacked on campus just walking home?

Make sure that you get an honest answer because this means the safety of your child! Don't take 'I know what I'm doing' or 'yeah, yeah, yeah', or even the popular 'whatever' for an answer!

Remember when you went to college? How often did you lock your dorm room? Too many kids left their doors wide open for anyone to enter. Been there, done that!

Well, we've all heard the horror stories about coeds on campus being molested, attacked and even raped. And lately, there have been too many kids shot by some maniac on campus.

Now is the time to send your daughter (or son) back to college feeling good about his or her safety. Just a simple thing like a Door Alarm or Motion Detector will alert her that someone is coming into her room. I know, her friends come in and out all the time but late at night when she wants to sleep, she should set her Door Alarm so she'll know of any intrusion. Even if it's just her friends, it's better to be safe than sorry.

You should also consider giving your daughter a can of Pepper Spray which also comes disguised as a lipstick tube, key chain, a pen and even jogging weights. Any of these products are small and unobtrusive but will protect your child if she is attacked because one or two squirts of Pepper Spray in the face of an attacker will stop him in his tracks and give your daughter a chance to get away and call 911.

Even if you don't have a daughter or son in college, many of us have nieces, nephews, grandchildren or even a neighbor who is attending school.

Don't forget, you don't have to go away to school to face potential attackers - your kids could be living at home but they still have to face the dangers in the outside world.

Let's face it - the world has become a dangerous place, especially for the young.

Please keep your children safe by giving them some kind of protection. Don't allow them to become a crime statistic. Even though they think that they're 'all grown up' they still are our children.

  • Holiday Stocking Stuffers -- Protect Your Loved Ones

Now that the Holiday Season is upon us, this is a wonderful time to reflect on all we have and be thankful for our friends and family. While shopping for gifts this season why not protect ourselves from criminals that lurk in parking lots ready to steal our gifts. Pepper Spray  is a very easy to use deterrent  to crime. Either before the holidays or as a gift, protect the ones you love.

Pepper Spray normally comes in aerosol type containers, some no larger than a lipstick. Some are small enough to attach to a key chain. Most of these non-lethal sprays can be fired several times and have a range between 8 and 20 feet, depending on model and size.

The size of the pepper spray unit generally determines its capacity.

Pepper spray is not the same as mace or tear gas sprays.

The popularity of these defense sprays has grown tremendously over the last few years due to the increase in violent crimes. Law abiding citizens are realizing that they have to depend on devices like this to protect themselves and their families. There are around 40 manufacturers of this type of spray, who offer various sizes, formulations and spray types. However there is only one chemical composition, which should be considered for use by the general public in a self defense situation.

It is estimated that at least 15,000,000 Americans now carry a personal defense spray, the majority of which are OC pepper.

The active ingredient in pepper spray is OC or oleoresin capsicum. The OC is derived from Cayenne peppers – some of the hottest peppers in the world. OC is a reddish-orange, oily liquid, insoluble in water. The OC agent is dispersed by the aerosol in a number of spray patterns depending on the model breezes and winds as much as fog and cone sprays

One of the misconceptions about pepper spray is, that the higher the percentage, the hotter and better it works. In most cases this is not true, most of the best, fastest incapacitating sprays in the world are from 2-10%. The lighter the fluid, the faster it penetrates the membrane.
